Are there always symptoms for STD?
Some Sexual Transmitted Diseases produce symptoms and some do not. If you experience discharge from the penis or vagina, sores or itching on the genitals, or burning during urination, get tested. Other types of infections may not produce symptoms but can be spread to your partners. If you do not use a condom, dental dam, or female condom during sexual interactions you are at risk and should be tested.

Can I test myself?
No, STD testing must be done by your health care provider. We can test for HIV, Herpes, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and Syphilis, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C.

Can I rely on my annual physical to detect STD?
Sexually transmitted diseases are not routinely tested for during a woman’s annual gynecological exam or a man’s annual check-up. It is also important to diagnose and receive treatment as soon as possible if a disease is contracted. If you see symptoms or have had unprotected sex, get tested right away.

Is there more than one type of STD test?
There are several different types of tests given to detect different types of infections. You will be asked several questions at the clinic to help determine which tests you’ll need. It’s important to be honest with all your answers. All of your information will be kept confidential.

What type of questions will I be asked?
You will be asked a series of questions to help us determine which tests are needed. You will be asked questions about your sexual practices; including your use of condoms, number of sexual partners, areas of your body used during sexual acts. We will also ask about your medical history, previous STDs, symptoms, current medication, and drug allergies. Women will be asked about their last period.

How are STD tested?
The testing process may include a physical exam, the drawing of blood for a blood sample, a mouth swab to collect saliva, tissue, and cell samples, and urinating into a cup for a urine sample. The diagnosis may be made during the office visit or might take several days or weeks if samples are sent to the lab. Our lab is onsite, so we are proud to offer fast and accurate results.

Do I need an appointment?
No, we provide STD testing on a walk in basis. The testing is quick, convenient, and confidential.
